# Breakfast

> Turn breakfast on for a property, price it, and say when it is served.

If your property serves breakfast, turning it on here is what makes it appear
everywhere else: on **Today** as the morning's cover count, on each reservation
as the mornings that stay is due, and on the bill when a guest is charged for it.

Go to **Settings → Breakfast** for the property you want to set up.

## Turn it on

**Serve breakfast** is the switch everything else hangs off. With it off, no
breakfast appears anywhere for this property and the rest of the screen is
hidden. A property that does not serve breakfast never has to think about it.

## How it is paid for

This is the default for guests whose rate does not already include breakfast:

* **Charged**: guests pay for breakfast on top of the room rate. Each morning
  they take is added to their bill.
* **Complimentary**: breakfast is free for every guest. Nothing reaches a bill.
* **Included in the rate**: breakfast came with the room rate they booked.

<Note>
  A guest booked on a rate that already includes breakfast always gets it
  included, whatever this setting says. That way you never charge twice for the
  same breakfast.

## Price

With **Charged** selected, set the **Adult** and **Child** price. Prices are per
person, per morning.

Who counts as a child comes from the booking itself, not from a setting here.
A channel decides that before it sends you the reservation: Booking.com, for
example, applies the age bands set on your listing there. For a booking you
take yourself, it is the adults and children you enter on the reservation.

## Service

**From** and **Until** are the hours you serve. **Usually served** is where
breakfast normally happens: in the breakfast area, in the room, or as a takeaway
box. It is only the starting point, and any single morning can be moved without
changing this.

## Breakfast sold by a channel

When a guest buys breakfast on Booking.com or Airbnb, it arrives with the
booking and appears on the reservation like any other morning, for exactly the
nights they bought rather than the whole stay.

Who collected the money decides what happens next, and the channel tells us:

* **The channel took the payment** (always the case on Airbnb, and on
  Booking.com when you use its own payment product). The charge still appears
  on the folio, because it is your revenue, and a matching **Collected by
  channel** payment sits against it. The balance nets to nothing, so nobody
  asks the guest to pay a second time at the desk.
* **You collect** (Booking.com's usual arrangement). The charge sits on the
  folio as normal and you take the money at check-out.

<Note>
  Breakfast a channel sold is not yours to re-price here, and the guest cannot
  drop it from their stay page: they bought it under the channel's terms, so a
  change has to go through the channel. You can still mark a morning **Not
  taken** at check-out, which keeps it off the bill.

## What guests can do

Guests who are charged for breakfast can add or drop individual mornings
themselves from their stay page, up until 20:00 the evening before. Mornings
that are included in the rate or complimentary are not theirs to drop, since the
kitchen is cooking them either way, and neither are mornings a channel sold.

A morning the channel already collected for shows the guest its price marked as
paid, so they can check it against their booking confirmation and know the desk
will not ask for it again.
