# Guest emails

> Choose which messages Vidimo emails your guests automatically, and see where those emails come from.

Vidimo emails your guests on your behalf at two moments: when a booking lands,
and when a guest pays for one on your own site. The **Guest emails** settings
let you decide whether each of those goes out.

Open them from the property's **Guest emails** settings.

## The messages

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Check-in invitation" icon="envelope-open">
    Sent once when a booking lands, asking the guest to check in online.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Booking confirmation" icon="circle-check">
    Sent when a guest books and pays on your own site.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

Each row has a switch you tap to turn it on or off. A switch to the right
(highlighted) is on; to the left is off. Changes take effect as soon as you tap,
and they apply to this property only, so a property you run differently can be
set differently.

Both start on. Leave them that way unless you have a reason not to.

## Read one before you switch it

Every row has a **Preview**. Tap it to read the message your guests actually
receive, subject line included, before deciding anything about it.

What you see is a worked example: your property's name and address are real,
and the dates, guest name and booking reference are made up. To read the
message one specific guest was sent, open their booking instead and use
**Preview email** on the **Check-in invitation** section: see
[View a reservation](/reservations/view-a-reservation).

<Warning>
  Turning off the check-in invitation also stops the guest details your
  registration filings need from arriving before check-in. It is the message
  that asks your guests for them, so without it you'll be collecting those
  details yourself, at the door. See
  [Guest registration](/check-in/guest-registration).
</Warning>

Bookings that arrive through a channel are confirmed by that channel, not by
us, so the booking confirmation only ever applies to guests who booked with you
directly. See [Collect a payment](/reservations/collect-payment).

<Note>
  Until you've set up [card payments](/properties/card-payments), the booking
  confirmation says so and its switch is inactive: there is no direct payment
  for it to confirm yet. You can still read it with **Preview**.
</Note>

## Where your guests' emails come from

These messages go out under your property's name, and a guest who simply hits
reply reaches you: their reply arrives in [Chats](/messaging/conversations),
in that guest's conversation, alongside everything else they've sent you.

## What isn't here

Two things your guests receive are deliberately not on this screen:

* **The sign-in link** a guest requests when they return to their stay. That's
  a guest asking to get back into their own booking, so it isn't something to
  switch off.
* **Messages you write yourself.** Anything you send from Chats goes when you
  send it.

## Sending an invitation yourself

Turning the check-in invitation off doesn't take the message away from you. Any
reservation still has a **Send invitation** button, and you can always
[copy the check-in link](/check-in/send-the-check-in-link) and send it over
whatever channel that guest actually answers on.

## Who can change these

Only team members with settings access: **owners** and **managers**. See
[Roles and permissions](/team/roles-and-permissions).
